How Ibiza airport works when someone is meeting you

Ibiza Airport (IBZ) has a single terminal, which makes things easy. The arrivals hall is on the ground floor (floor 0): you come out of baggage reclaim (ten belts; the screens tell you which one is yours) into the public concourse, where the car-hire desks are and the doors lead out to taxis and buses. That is where we wait for you, with a sign bearing your name, right at the exit from baggage reclaim. Departures and check-in are upstairs. The airport has no left-luggage office, which is exactly why this service exists.

For the car we use the Express car park, the kiss-and-fly lane directly in front of the terminal: the first 10 minutes are free and the maximum stay is 30, so the handover is quick and 50 metres from the door. If your flight is delayed, we move the car to P1, the general car park opposite, and keep waiting. All you notice is somebody taking the bags out of your hands.

Two directions, two kinds of handover

Arrival: from the plane to the villa carrying nothing

You hand us the bags in arrivals, we tag each one with your name and destination, send you a photo and head for the villa, hotel or marina. They usually get there before you do, because you still have to pick up the hire car or wait for a taxi. If nobody is at the destination, we leave them where you tell us (reception, key box, marina office) and send a photo of exactly where they are.

Departure: from the villa to the departures hall

The last day is the painful one: out of the villa by 10:00, flight at 21:00. We collect the bags from the villa or hotel in the morning, keep them with us and hand them to you in person in the departures area at the time we agree, so you can check in and board. You spend the day on the beach with a backpack. We also collect from a boat or marina if you disembark and fly the same day.

The summer flight waves

In July and August Ibiza handles more than 1.4 million passengers a month and more than 13,000 aircraft movements: around 430 take-offs and landings a day, peaking at weekends. Arrivals come in two waves, late morning and late afternoon into the evening, and the hall fills with name boards and transfer bibs. That is why we ask for the flight number and not just a time: we track the real arrival, know which belt your bags come out on and are at the right door when you walk through.

What we need to confirm

Flight number and date; how many bags and what kind (suitcases, golf bags, pushchair, board, high chair…); the name to put on the tags; the delivery address with a reference, a pin and a contact person; and your phone for WhatsApp on the day. For a departure run, the pickup time at your accommodation and the time you want the bags at the terminal. With that we confirm price and time on WhatsApp. If the flight slips, the airport tells us before it tells you; we message you and adjust without you having to do anything.
